Hello!
We’re almost at the end of the first third of 2025 (how???) so I thought I’d send out the best TV shows of 2025 (so far) so you can bookmark this newsletter and catch up on any that you’ve missed.
Adolescence, Netflix
Adolescence follows the Millers, an ordinary family whose world is turned upside down when their 13-year-old son Jamie is accused of brutally murdering a classmate. The mini-series is filmed in a single shot, stripping back the usual flashiness of courtroom dramas and police procedurals, and instead taking the audience by the hand and leading them through the process of a 13-year-old being arrested, booked and detained, as his family and school try to come to terms with such a violent act being committed in their own community.
The Pitt, Binge
The Pitt is unlike any medical drama you’ve watched before. The series is set in real time, meaning each episode covers one hour of a single 15-hour shift in the emergency department of a Pittsburgh hospital. Each episode follows the ER team as they provide emergency healthcare to an array of patients while dealing with limited beds and understaffing. ER’s Noah Wiley leads the team as senior attending Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch and I’m convinced that a diagnosis and a forehead kiss from Dr Robby would fix me.
The Studio, Apple TV+
Created by comedy duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, this Apple TV+ series follows Matt Remick (Rogen), the new head of the struggling Continental Studios. As the film industry fights to stay relevant, Matt and his team of bickering executives juggle their own insecurities while managing egotistical artists and ruthless corporate bosses in their quest to make great films.
Dying For Sex, Disney+
After Molly (Michelle Williams) is diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, she leaves her marriage of 15 years determined to have an orgasm with another person before she dies. The series is based on the podcast of the same name hosted by Nikki Boyer, which told the true story of Nikki’s friend Molly.
The Residence, Netflix
This fun murder mystery series stars Orange is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes!) as Detective Cordelia Cupp, who’s tasked with solving a mysterious death at the White House during a state dinner with the Australian prime minister.
Reluctantly teaming up with FBI agent Edwin Park (Randall Park), Cupp must put the pieces of the puzzle together while dealing White House bureaucracy and all the colourful characters who live and work at the residence.
Knives Out meets How To Get Away With Murder, The Residence is a fun murder mystery with enough twists to keep you engaged until the final big reveal.
Running Point, Netflix
Running Point, which can best be described as Succession meets Ted Lasso meets an early noughties rom-com starring Kate Hudson, follows reformed party girl Isla Gordon (Hudson) who has to step up as CEO of her family’s pro basketball team after her older brother is involved in a scandal.
Isla must prove herself to the team, the fans and her own brothers, as she attempts to save the team from a record losing season and a string of scandals.
It’s comfort watching at its best with a killer cast including Hudson, Brenda Song, New Girl’s Max Greenfield, The Other Two’s Drew Tarver and Justin Theroux.
Mid-Century Modern, Disney+
From the creators of Will & Grace comes Mid-Century Modern, a cosy sitcom about longlife friends Jerry Frank (Matt Bomer), Nathan Lee Graham (Arthur Broussard) and Bunny Schneiderman (Nathan Lane), who decide to live together in Bunny’s Palm Springs home alongside his mother Sybil (Linda Lavin), after their fourth friend unexpectedly dies.
Apple Cider Vinegar, Netflix
Apple Cider Vinegar tells the ~ slightly fictionalised ~ version of Australian cancer fraud Belle Gibson’s story. It stars American actress Kaitlyn Dever as Belle, Australian actress Alycia Debnam-Carey as a young magazine editor who attempts to treat her own cancer with alternative medicine, and The Bold Type’s Aisha Dee as the women’s friend and manager.
The series takes us through Belle’s entire story — from when she first started to talk about her brain cancer online, to starting The Wholefood Pantry, to being exposed as a fraud.
Dever is incredible — she really nails Belle’s voice and mannerisms — and the series stars some of Australia’s biggest acting talent including Mark Coles Smith, Matt Nable, Catherine McClements, Susie Porter and Ashley Zukerman.
High Potential, Disney+
If you’re a fan of ‘murder of the week’ series with an interesting twist, you’ll love Disney+’s new detective drama High Potential. The series stars Kaitlin Olsen as Morgan, as single mum of three kids, who works as a cleaner at the local police station. When the police chief notices Morgan has ‘high intellectual potential’ she hires her to help her detectives solve their biggest cases.
Paradise, Disney+
Paradise stars James Marsden as the former President of the United States and Sterling K. Brown as the Secret Service Agent in charge of protecting him. I don’t want to give too much away about this series as it’s better if you go in blind so you can fully appreciate the big twist at the end of the first episode.
Long Bright River, Stan
This limited series is based on Liz Moore’s bestselling book of the same name and it’s set in a Philadelphia neighbourhood which has been hit hard by the opioid crisis. It follows Mickey Fitzpatrick (Amanda Seyfried), a beat cop who grew up in the neighbourhood alongside her younger sister Casey, who’s an addict.
After Casey goes missing and several local sex workers are found dead as a result of a suspected homicide, Mickey begins to worry that Casey may be the next victim and that she may know the man responsible.
Clean Slate, Prime Video
Clean Slate follows a trans woman named Desiree (Laverne Cox) who returns home to Alabama and her car wash-owning father Harry (George Wallace) when her business goes bust. As Desiree settles back into small-town Alabama, Harry must come to terms with the fact the son he hasn’t seen in 22 years has returned home as a woman. This series is incredibly sweet and laugh out loud funny — it kind of reminded me of Hart of Dixie meets Somebody, Somewhere meets the cosiest sitcom from your childhood.
Amandaland, Stan
Starring Joanna Lumley and Lucy Punch, this British comedy series spin-off of Motherland follows newly divorced Amanda (Punch), who’s just downsized and moved to South Harlesden. Between teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts, and eco-anxiety, Amanda’s certainty about motherhood is tested in ways she never expected.
Plus! The best returning series (so far)…
Severance season 2 on Apple TV+
The White Lotus season 3 on Binge
Yellowjackets season 3 on Paramount+

We must have very similar tastes because all those shows are on my top shows list to or on my "to watch" list 😊. The biggest surprise for me was The Pitt. I did not expect it to be that good but it's my fav show of the year so far.
Amandaland is 10/10! I was so sad when I got to the end of the season.
