One of my favourite genres of TV is ‘messy British women and their funny, dysfunctional families’ — think Fleabag, This Way Up, I Hate Suzie and Back To Life.
The latest entry into this genre is Such Brave Girls, an outrageous new comedy created by sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson, which follows a single mum and her two daughters, who try to piece their lives back together after their father walks out and leaves them with a huge amount of debt.
While daughter Josie is dealing with her snowballing mental health problems, her sister Billie is trying to win the affections of a guy who clearly isn’t that into her, and her mum Deb is attempting to get a widow named Dev to commit to her so they can all move into his big house.
Full of gross-out moments (there’s a scene in episode one that’s still haunting me), Such Brave Girls pushes comedic boundaries to introduce the audience to a family of women who are so terrible, you can’t help but root for them.
