Hello!
On Monday, the French courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and it’s now available to rent in Australia.
The tightly-woven procedural follows Sandra, a writer who has been living in a remote village in the French Alps with her husband Samuel, and their visually impaired son Daniel, for the past year.
When Samuel is found dead in the snow after falling from the third floor of the house, it’s ruled a suspicious death and Sandra is soon on trial for his murder.
With Daniel as the only witness, the film is both a courtroom procedural, that’s as gripping as a true crime documentary, and a poignant exploration of human relationships.
Anatomy of a Fall’s strength is its willingness to embrace ambiguity, don’t go into the film expecting everything to be wrapped up in a neat bow by the time the final credits roll.
