The Studio, The Pitt, Mid-Century Modern and a couple of cosy recipes.
I have a huge crush on Seth Rogen so you better believe I watched the first two episodes of The Studio the moment they dropped on Apple TV+ this week.
The series, which was created by Rogen and his longtime creative partner Evan Goldberg, follows Matt (Rogen) — a movie studio executive who is unexpectedly given the top job when his predecessor (Catherine O’Hara) is pushed out of the company.
Together with his team (Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn, Chase Sui Wonders) Matt sets out to make the next Annie Hall or Rosemary’s Baby or “some great film that wasn’t directed by a pervert” while also trying to make a commercial hit like Barbie to bring in the big bucks for the owner of the studio (Bryan Cranston).
I have a theory that Hollywood is at its best when it’s taking the piss out of itself and The Studio more than proves this. It has a brilliant cast, an incredible premise and enough drama and high jinks to keep you thoroughly entertained and waiting for the next episode to drop.
