The giveaway this week is Naima Brown's new novel, Mother Tongue.
One of my favourite genres of TV is ‘murders but make it fun!’ (I’m looking at you Only Murders in the Building and Based on a True Story) so I was thrilled when I first heard that Shondaland was making a locked room murder mystery series set at the White House.
The Residence stars Orange is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes!) as Detective Cordelia Cupp, who’s tasked with solving a mysterious death at the White House during a state dinner.
To add to the fun, the state dinner is with the Australian prime minister (played by Julian McMahon), the Australian foreign minister (a very dishy and horny Brett Tucker), and features a performance by Kylie Minogue and a fake Hugh Jackman who just wants to go to bed.
Reluctantly teaming up with FBI agent Edwin Park (Randall Park), Cupp must put the pieces of the puzzle together while dealing White House bureaucracy and all the colourful characters who live and work at the residence.
