Long Bright River, Adolescence and the second season of Three.
Good morning!!! I was really excited to watch Long Bright River after I heard it described as Amanda Seyfried’s ‘Mare of Easttown’.
The limited series (which is streaming on Stan) is based on Liz Moore’s bestselling book of the same name and it’s set in a Philadelphia neighbourhood, which has been hit hard by the opioid crisis. It follows Mickey Fitzpatrick (Seyfried), a beat cop who grew up in the neighbourhood alongside her younger sister Casey, who’s an addict.
After Casey goes missing and several local sex workers are found dead as a result of a suspected homicide, Mickey begins to worry that Casey may be the next victim and that she may know the man responsible.
I can see why the series has been compared to Mare of Easttown — both are female-led, gritty, and centre the victims and their struggles — but I think Long Bright River stands …
