#76 What I've been watching, reading and listening to this week.
Apple Cider Vinegar, Clean Slate, and the official Bridget Jones podcast.
The hotly anticipated Belle Gibson-inspired series dropped onto Netflix this week. Apple Cider Vinegar stars American actress Kaitlyn Dever as a fictional version of Belle, Australian actress Alycia Debnam-Carey as a young magazine editor who attempts to treat her own cancer with alternative medicine, and The Bold Type’s Aisha Dee as the women’s friend and manager.
The series takes us through Belle’s entire story — from when she first started to talk about her brain cancer online, to starting The Wholefood Pantry, to being exposed as a fraud.
Dever is incredible — she really nails Belle’s voice and mannerisms — and the series stars some of Australia’s biggest acting talent including Mark Coles Smith, Matt Nable, Catherine McClements, Susie Porter and Ashley Zukerman.
I really enjoyed this series and it made me realise how much I’d forgotten about Belle’s story and that particular period of internet/media history.
