A 1960s murder mystery plus two new true crime podcasts.
I’ve got quite the murder-y edition for you this week.
First up is Apple TV+’s new thriller mini-series Lady in the Lake, which is based on Laura Lippman’s novel of the same name.
It tells the story of two Baltimore women in the 1960s: affluent white Jewish housewife and mother Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman) and Black, basically single mother Cleo (Moses Ingram), who’s working hard to lift herself and her children out of a life of struggle.
Their lives begin to converge when a young girl named Tessie goes missing during the Thanksgiving Day parade. After Maddie finds Tessie’s body in a lake, she leaves her husband and son, moves into an apartment in a Black neighbourhood and begins investigating the murder herself.
When Cleo’s body is found in the fountain of a local park, Maddie starts looking into her case too.
