One of my favourite TV niches is British thrillers in which a middle-class white woman in a lovely big house, with a lovely husband, and some cute kids, is tormented by her secret past. And Stan’s new six-part series Insomnia, delivers all this in spades.
The series is adapted from Sarah Pinborough’s book of the same name (she wrote Behind Her Eyes as well) and stars Vicky McClure as lawyer and mum-of-two Emma.
Emma is just about to turn 40 when she starts experiencing insomnia and flashbacks to her mother going through the same thing when she was her age.
As Emma’s insomnia worsens, she begins to worry that she’s losing her mind like her mother did and then the police come knocking on her door…
The first two episodes are streaming now.
